What is blind golf?
Playing blind golf can be one of the most exciting sports for those who are legally or totally blind. The thrill of being able to play the same game on the same golf courses as Tiger Woods, Jack, Nicklaus, and all of the world's greatest golfers is really no different for us than any other person who enjoys golf. We can bomb drives, hit out of the rough and sand, make long cuts, and even shoot under par. We rely on our other senses to make the game possible for us to achieve high levels of excellence and experience great fun. By feeling the ground with our feet and hearing the golf ball take off and land, we are really no different than anyone else who enjoys playing the game of golf worldwide.
The biggest difference between a blind golfer and a sited golfer is our coach. Blind Golf is truly a team sport, which is unlike any other golf experience. Our coach gives us the club, tells us the distance, aligns us for the shot, and helps us find our ball until it’s in the bottom of the cup. Yes, our coach is our eyes and makes this great game possible for all blind golfers. These incredible men and women make the game of golf viable for us. Sometimes they are family members or just great friends.
If you’ve never seen a blind golfer in action with their coach, it is something very unique to experience. If you know someone or you are blind and interested in getting more information, please contact [email protected] for more information.
